Description

The Opel was sold through Buick Dealers during the 60's and 70's.This particular car was purchased by Buick Engineering and used as a test bed for changes Buick thought were necessary to make the Kadett more attractive to the US market.
This car was built on November 21, 1966 for US import in Germany.
During this period Bunkie Knudsen was VP of General Motors and head of Overseas Operations and probably had some involvement in the modifications done to this car.
After Buick was done with this car it was sold to Bunkie Knudsen's brother-in-law (John Stevenson) and registered in Florida on December 12, 1967.
The car stayed in that family until June of 1989 where it was verified to have 26,455 miles at that time.
There are many one off hand built parts on this car that were necessary to make the changes Buick thought were necessary.
The car was built in Germany on November 21, 1966.
It was build to the following specifications;
1.1 liter four cylinder engine
4-speed manual transmission
Granada Red Exterior
Black standard interior.
4-wheel drum brakes.
The following changes were made by Buick;
The 1.1 was replaced with a 1.9 liter engine
The 4-speed was replace with a 2-speed automatic.
Power front disc brakes were added.
A/C was added.
There following are the known modifications made to the car to enable these changes.
The battery was relocated from the passengers fire wall to the drivers fender apron.
An A/C box went in place of the battery.
This was accomplished with fabricating a one off battery tray and hold down.
Modified motor and transmission mounts.
Modified radiator core support.
Larger radiator.
Fabricated supports for the power brake master cylinder and booster to the core support.
GM style dealer installed A/C under the dash unit was installed.
Console cover.
The carburetor has been upgraded from the troublesome Solex to a mush more reliable Webber.
The exterior of this car was recently repainted in single stage urethane in the original Granada Red.
The interior is mostly original except for the front carpet that is known to have been replace in the last 10 years.
This car has only been driven a total of 40,750 miles in the past 47 years.
This car is in very good original condition but is by no means perfect. While the exterior has been recently repainted the interior is mostly original and shows some age. The seats are very good but do have some minor flaws. The dash pad is beginning to crack. The original paint on the interior shows usage. The headliner is original and has been dyed the original white just to clean it up.
I have tried to describe the condition of this car as accurately as possible but I'm sure I may have missed something so ask questions.
